Reviews:

“a vibrant design… Katie Lias’ appealing stage design features a palette of indigo and sunflower yellow that instantly evokes an Andalusian summer. Glossy blue and while tiles cover several walls, while others are clad with cracked navy plaster, peeling away to reveal burnished gold swirls below. The bright colours carry through to the characterful costumes, which cleanly and effectively separate the play’s factions. Ferdinand’s Navarrese wear tight-fitting hose and bolero jackets trimmed with gold piping, while the Spaniards strut in voluminous ruffled skirts and lacy veils in a riot of different fabrics and bright jewel tones… It all looks gorgeous”

  • The Stage

“Katie Lias’s design brings flamboyant colour to the stage, with blue and gold becoming the palette for set, dancers and musicians, the princess attired in plush scarlet and the would-be ascetic men in white and cream satins and lace.”

  • Financial Times

“Katie Lias’s designs are overwhelmingly strong across the board… The costume designs, however, are where Lias shines: in a wash of colour and pattern, each costume is hugely detailed and combines the Shakespearean tradition of rank and authority with vibrancy and vividness that truly brings the production to life.”

“Katie Lias’s colourful design wraps the Globe’s columns with a look of peeling paint, intricately designed balcony newel posts, and yellow and blue-tiled back panels. Her costumes put the lords in white with gold accents; the ladies in a riot of colour and texture.”
